Objectives: The aim of this review is to provide information to support the UK Government to make more informed decisions to ensure the UK’s Inventory is more accurate and transparent, now and into the future.
Services provided by Kairos Climate Impulse:
- Review the scientific and technical methods used to calculate different categories of the emissions in the Waste Sector (including interaction with other sectors) ensuring that they are applied correctly while ensuring that consistency in time series is achieved.
- Review activity data that are used to derive emissions estimates and advise whether they are sufficient and fit for purpose, in terms of completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy, and if not, make recommendations on what other data are needed to achieve completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy both now and in the future with emphasis on future-proofing the Inventory.
- Review how the UK Activity Data is collected (mostly from National Agency) and how inventory models are currently built and propose improvement where needed based on lessons learnt elsewhere.
- Assess whether the derivation of uncertainty estimates in each sector comply with internationally adopted methods and carefully consider how correlation between the categories are handled.
- Identify how current limitations in the UK GHG inventory will affect future domestic and international GHGI reporting if ignored.
- With a view to estimating emissions accurately over at least the next 10 years, identify areas where improvements to methodologies, emissions factors and/or activity data would have the biggest impact on making emissions estimates as accurate and transparent as possible, with emissions uncertainties quantified as well as is possible.

Objetivos: El objetivo de esta revisión es proporcionar información para respaldar al Gobierno del Reino Unido en la toma de decisiones más informadas con el fin de garantizar que el Inventario del Reino Unido sea más preciso y transparente, tanto en el presente como en el futuro.
Servicios proporcionados por Kairos Climate Impulse:
- Revisar los métodos científicos y técnicos utilizados para calcular diferentes categorías de emisiones en el Sector de Residuos (incluida la interacción con otros sectores), asegurando que se apliquen correctamente y garantizando la consistencia en las series temporales.
- Revisar los datos de actividad utilizados para derivar estimaciones de emisiones y asesorar si son suficientes y adecuados para el propósito, en términos de completitud, consistencia, transparencia y precisión, y si no lo son, hacer recomendaciones sobre qué otros datos son necesarios para lograr la completitud, consistencia, transparencia y precisión tanto ahora como en el futuro, con énfasis en la futura actualización del Inventario.
- Revisar cómo se recopilan los Datos de Actividad del Reino Unido (principalmente de la Agencia Nacional) y cómo se construyen actualmente los modelos de inventario, y proponer mejoras donde sea necesario basándose en lecciones aprendidas en otros lugares.
- Evaluar si la derivación de las estimaciones de incertidumbre en cada sector cumple con los métodos adoptados internacionalmente y considerar cuidadosamente cómo se manejan las correlaciones entre las categorías.
- Identificar cómo las limitaciones actuales en el inventario de GEI del Reino Unido afectarán a la presentación futura de informes nacionales e internacionales sobre GEI si se ignoran.
- Con el fin de estimar las emisiones con precisión durante al menos los próximos 10 años, identificar áreas donde las mejoras en metodologías, factores de emisión y/o datos de actividad tendrían el mayor impacto en hacer que las estimaciones de emisiones sean lo más precisas y transparentes posible, con las incertidumbres de emisión cuantificadas tanto como sea posible.
- Hacer recomendaciones a DESNZ sobre una lista de prioridades de mejoras a realizar y formas en que estas mejoras pueden llevarse a cabo.
